Floating Village

Another long, but exhilarating day that included shopping for school supplies, a visit to the ancient temple grounds of Sambor Prei Kuk, a boat ride on Tonlé Sap Lake to view the floating village, a school visit, followed by a ride on an oxcart to view sunset over the rice fields, and a home stay.  Continue reading

Ta Prohm Temple where the movie Tomb Raider was filmed

March 12 ~ Siem Reap, Cambodia

Ta Prohm Temple

Ta Prohm Temple

Probably one of the most popular and photographed temples, Ta Prohm was brought to the world’s attention by the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movie starring Angelina Jolie. With tree roots cascading down the side of walls, or perched precariously on top of ancient structures, you definitely feel like you are entering into a jungle domain.  Continue reading

Angkor Wat Sunrise

Saturday March 12th ~ Siem Reap, Cambodia

Abandoned coconut

We have had sunny and hot weather since arriving in Cambodia, but this morning the stars were not aligned in our favor. Up early and out the door at 5:00 to do a sunrise shoot at Angkor Wat we were disappointed to be greeted by our first rain.

Needless to say, our dreams of getting that beautiful morning glow coming up over the temples with brilliant reflections in the surrounding pool of water went up in smoke.

We did manage to capture a few pictures that will at least set the stage of where we were and I’m sure will bring back wistful memories for us in years to come…  Continue reading

The heat and humidity are draining and I’m struggling some today as we leave Battambang for a five-hour bus ride to Siem Reap. Keeping hydrated is a challenge as we perspire fluids as quickly as we take it in.  Continue reading

A brutal day in Phnom Penh – emotionally spent

Monday, March 7th ~ Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh

We started off the day with 12 of us plus Boreth loading into three Tuk Tuks and heading out for our morning optional city tour. Tim and I were joined by Jenny and Dave, the young couple from Wisconsin. Within about two minutes our driver had lost the group. He kept circling around a few blocks, passing by several sites, and I think eventually gave up on finding our group.  Continue reading

First Impressions – A combination of India and Guatemala all rolled into one – and not necessarily in a good way. Please know that we dearly love both of these countries, but they are not for the inexperienced traveler.  Continue reading

Tim, Gus, and Joanne at the Orchid Gardens

Only having one and a half days in Singapore to see the highlights might be considered criminal to many. I know I felt short-changed! There is SO MUCH to see and experience here that we have already started discussing when we can return. Perhaps next year and combine it with time in Myanmar or Malaysia or Bali or ???  Continue reading
