August 16 – Edinburgh Scotland
Our good friends from Southern California, Dick and Karen, arrived on Friday to spend several days with us here in Edinburgh. The last time we saw them (along with our other friends, Jan and Gary), was a couple of months ago when we met up on our Gate 1 trip in the Baltic countries of Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.
With being so busy, my time on the Internet was limited and my blog entries suffered. So, in order to get caught up, I will be doing a quick recap primarily told through our pictures.
Truthfully I gladly sacrificed my writing time, to spend quality time with friends!
Feeding the swans, ducks and geese
Walking the Royal Mile and checking out the street entertainers here for the Fringe Festival.
One part amusement park, mixed in with an explanation of how scotch whiskey is made and then topped off with a smelling/tasting experience.
Eating pork sandwiches from “Oink”
An old-fashioned hog roast, then shredded, topped with stuffing, haggis or BBQ sauce and generously served on a large soft bun – YUMMY!
A wonderful and extensive collection of childhood toys that cover 5 large galleries.
The children of Edinburgh had a poster contest and these are a few of the finalist. Some of the top drawings were from children aged 5-10 years old. Amazing budding artists.
Gratitude Moment: Today I am grateful when children are recognized for their imagination and creativity from an early age. What gifts and talents can be unleashed when they are encouraged and allowed to develop naturally.
You truly blessed to be able to visit all these wonderful places, and I am grateful that you are letting us tag along, we appreciate it!

Hi Tim and Jonanne
We live close to Edinburgh and enjoy going to the Festival each year, as you did – we especially like the street performers on the Royal Mile. This year we’ve tickets booked for the Military Tattoo at the Castle, which will be great.
We’ve never managed to get to the Museum of Childhood, but our 12 year old daughter finally persuaded us to go last month!
It is a fascinating place, so we took loads of photos and wrote it up. If any of your readers want to read more about the museum here it is on our website:

Hi Tim and Joanne,
Thanks for the quick reply – unfortunately the link in my comment to the Museum of Childhood doesn’t seem to work – there is an extra (or funny) quotation mark at the end of the URL. Is there anything you can do to fix it?
Thanks
Clare
