May 17th – Porto, Portugal

Ponte de D. Luis (Luis I Bridge)
Today’s post is short. I have fallen victim to a cold. Tim has made several trips out to local pharmacies to get something to dry up my runny nose and watery eyes. I’m not completely miserable, but not feeling perky either.
Our Gate 1 tour officially gets kicked off with a morning sightseeing tour of Porto. We duplicated some of the stops that were covered on our hop on hop off tour that we did on our own a couple days earlier so I am leaving out those stops.

Castelo do Queijo
The visit to the Palacio da Bolsa or Stock Exchange, renowned for its exquisite neoclassical façade and ornate gilded Arabian Hall was the highlight of the morning. For a moment I thought we were back in Morocco.

Palacio da Bolsa
and a visit to the Church of Sao Francisco, but no photography was allowed inside.
We finish the tour with a visit to a Port Wine Cellar for a tasting. I decided that I like the aroma of the port even better than the taste.

Overnight: Porto
GRATITUDE MOMENT: Today (as everyday) I am grateful for my wonderful hubby for making several excursions out to find a pharmacy where he could buy me some medication to help relieve my cold symptoms.
Rest up (hard to do during travel, isn’t it?)

Joanne, you are amazing. Not feeling well and still taking the time to post. The architecture at the Palacio da Bolsa is exquisite.
Thanks for continuing to keep us informed, educated and captivated.
I’m hoping this is a 24 hour cold and you will recover from this quickly.
Thanks Tim for taking such good care of her.

I’m thankfully all recovered, but my blog writing got put on hold while I conserved my energy, went to bed early and simply took lots of pictures and enjoyed my days. Now I have a ton of writing to do to get caught up! We loved Porto and our time there flew by.

Great! I’m going to read your new post now, I also love Serra do Buçaco and it’s a less known place that everyone should go to, glad you did it!

Thank you Alison. A bit more challenging to rest when traveling with a group.

I feel for you. I got a cold/flu at the end of our recent trip and was miserable. I hate being sick when away from home (not that I love it anytime!). My own dear hubby has had the task of finding relief for me at times, too. Best to you both.
