COLOMBO, SRI LANKA: If India and the Middle East had a baby

Welcome to Colombo, Sri Lanka

Welcome to Colombo, Sri Lanka

We have three full days on our own to explore Colombo before we will meet up with our Gate 1 tour group. Establishing a pattern of arriving early to a destination, allows us time to recover from jet lag and get acclimated to a new time zone. Continue reading

Sri Lanka: Just getting there was a wild journey

OK, I admit I am a wee tab bit emotional when it comes to seeing/reading/hearing anything even remotely touching. My sensitivity gene got an extra link. If someone says anything kind, the tears can flow like a faucet.

This can be a good thing, or embarrassing, depending upon the setting. When on an airplane, sitting next to a total stranger, it can fall somewhere in-between. Perhaps more toward the uncomfortable side.

After a long break, we are ready to hit the road again!

Sri Lanka ~ Photo courtesy Lonely Planet

It is hard to believe that it has been six months since we got back from our cross country RV trip. Tim has stayed busy helping our son with his business while I have been stagnate. I am so ready to shake off the “snow and dust” and get out the door.

And we are about to embark on another fantastic adventure!

ARIZONA: Grand Canyon National Park

June 23rd ~ Williams, AZ ~

The Grand Canyon

Our trip was almost at an end, and as so often seems to be the case, everyones energy level had faded. Shirley was not her spunky self, Tim had been fighting allergies that had probably gone into a sinus infection, and I was just plain old feeling worn out. We decided to reroute a shorter direction towards home. BUT, first we had to see the GRAND CANYON! Continue reading

UTAH: Bryce Canyon National Park

June 21st ~ Bryce Canyon ~

Bryce Canyon National Park ~ Bryce Point

Bryce Canyon National Park

It’s all about the colorful rocks and hoodoos here in Bryce Canyon (which is technically not a canyon at all, but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters). Much smaller than nearby Zion NP, it receives only half as many visitors each year. It also sits at a higher elevation ranging from 6600 feet to 9100 feet at Rainbow Point, the far end of the park.  Continue reading

June 19th ~ Ogden, UT ~

George S Eccles Dinosaur Park

Our only stopover for the day was to check out the George S Eccles Dinosaur Park. This was not one of our favorites, but it did give us a chance to stretch our legs for a bit. Continue reading

WYOMING: Yellowstone National Park

June 16 – 18th ~ Yellowstone National Park ~

Old Faithful

We managed to land an RV spot at Madison Campground for three nights thanks to Tim’s patient charm and a ranger that went over and beyond being helpful.

For two and a half days we showed Shirley the highlights of our favorite National Park. There is so much so see here, but we realized that hiking long distances, climbing a lot of stairs, or navigating over rough terrain would be too much. We chose places based on natural beauty, uniqueness and ease of access. Continue reading

WYOMING: Devils Tower to Cody

June 13th ~ Cody, WY ~

Somewhere along the road between Devils Tower and Cody

This was a travel day taking us three hundred miles from Devils Tower to Cody Wyoming.

About the only significant event was seeing a moose along the road at 60 mile-per-hour and the beautiful scenery. Sorry did not get a picture of the moose. Continue reading
