Zurich – Fabulous Food, Walking Tour, Museum and a Sick Puppy

June 23, 2023 ~ Zurich, Switzerland

Brenda, Steve, Joanne & Tim

I’m exhausted tonight as I’m trying to organize our photos and my thoughts about the day. After only getting around three – four hours sleep for each of the past three nights, I’m running on fumes. Insomnia has been making herself known. I’m really hoping to be able to catch up a bit tonight but it is after 11:00 pm in Zurich and I’m just getting started here. On top of that, Tim and I are waiting for a call from our veterinarian regarding our little dog, Maya.

Southern California to Zurich, Switzerland

June 21-22, 2023

Joanne, Tim, Steve & Brenda

Bright and (very) early Wednesday morning we drove down the mountain to arrive at our traveling companions home in Orange County. I had ordered an Uber XL to accommodate us and our luggage. Everything went as planned and we had more than enough time to get checked in, through security, have a nice leisurely breakfast and take off on our first leg – John Wayne airport in Santa Ana to Chicago.

A Princess Cruise to Nowhere and Anywhere

December 17-20, 2022

Discovery Princess

Have you ever taken a cruise somewhere but never gotten off the ship? That’s exactly what Tim and I did last December, just before Christmas.

The four day itinerary was on Princess Cruise lines newest ship, the Discovery Princess. We boarded in Los Ángeles, and had stops in San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico before returning to LA.

We had been to both destinations before, and although we wouldn’t have minded doing some sightseeing in San Diego, the lure of just staying on the ship, relaxing, enjoying the shipboard activities, savoring the food, and spending time with our traveling companions, Dick and Karen, was a bigger draw.

Our Travel Plans for 2023 – So Far!

When I wrote that we were getting back up on the horse, I probably should have said that we had placed one boot in the stirrup. Compared to years past, 2023 is getting off to a slow start.

BUT, the two trips already booked should be amazing!

Getty Villa Museum ~ Like taking a trip to Italy, no passport required!

Getty Villa Museum

When we travel, one of my favorite things to visit is the top museum in the area, city or county. What I have found repeatedly on our tours is that not enough time is allotted to do justice to the visit, but at least I get a taste of the history, art or relics on display.

La Quinta Art Celebration

Invited by dear friends to join them at the La Quinta Art Celebration, it took us all of about two seconds to say, “Heck yeah”!

La Quinta is located less than 100 miles from our mountain cabin in Southern California. We were fortunate to visit this beautiful venue in November last year.

This award-winning fine art and crafts event features premier artists from 31 states and six countries! You will find paintings, both 2D and 3D mixed media, photography, ceramics, glass, sculpture, fiber, wood and jewelry.

Getting Back Up on the Horse (Metaphorically Speaking)

Greetings to our travel friends and those of you who have so kindly followed our adventures over the years. We want to acknowledge that this has been a challenging time for so many of you. Our sincere wish is that your lives have or are in the process of returning to normal.

Our worldwide pandemic has now been reduced and is no longer considered an emergency.

“…on May 5, the World Health Organization declared an end to the COVID-19 public health emergency of international concern, …that had been in place since Jan. 30, 2020.” ~ msn.com

Like so many others, we took a step back from traveling and watched the world go by. Tim and I both had only relatively minor cases of the virus and were lucky to have a well provisioned cabin that allowed us a safe place to isolate. Tim has since stayed busy helping our son build his business. I wrote a very tiny eBook and have tried to improve my culinary skills. Both of our hair got long. Tim’s got longer than mine 😁. Oh, I almost forgot to mention – WE GOT A PUPPY!

29 Fabulous and Fascinating Fountains From Faraway Places

Barcelona, Spain

“A kind heart is a fountain of gladness, making everything in its vicinity freshen into smiles.” ~ Washington Irving

Most cities around the world have a main square. You will find a church or cathedral along one side, and sometimes a government building opposite it. And then in the center of the town square there is usually some kind of statue or monument. Often you will find a fountain. Some are small, hardly more than a drinking fountain, others are works of art, showcasing a local theme or hero.

Another place we have found magnificent fountains is on the grounds of huge estates. We have discovered that fountains come in a WIDE variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and uses.

Please enjoy a sampling of some of the many fountains we have posed in front of, cooled off by, laughed at, or simply admired.
