Tuesday, June 13th ~ Kodachrome Trail Ride

Kodachrome Trail Ride Office

Tim and I were the first to arrive. Soon Jerry pulled in with an empty horse trailer. She pointed to the dirt road behind us and said that Steve would be arriving shortly with the horses.  Continue reading

Fairyland and Mossy Cave – A Second Chance

Monday, June 12 ~ A return to Bryce, Fairyland and Mossy Cave

On the edge of the wilderness area

The wind was still howling this morning, but the forecast claimed it would subside by sometime mid afternoon. We were both getting a little cabin fever and wanted to get out and do some exploring.  Continue reading

HIGH WIND WARNINGS – Guess we are staying put for now…

June 11th ~ Stuck at Kodachrome Basin State Park for the day.

Map or area. The blue dot near the center is Kodachrome Basin

Well, stuck is a harsh word. Tim was coming down with a bit of a bug and we chose to stay indoors, sit out the wind storm that has returned with a vengeance, eat some home-made chicken soup and let him recover.  Continue reading

Bryce Canyon National Park

June 10th ~ Bryce Canyon National Park

Tim and Joanne at Bryce Point

The gusty wind seems to have calmed a smidgen, so we loaded into our tow vehicle, Jethro and headed toward the nearby town of Canyonville to gas up and pick up a couple of items from the local store. While there, we stopped in to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM) Visitors Center to inquire about local hikes.  Continue reading

Red Canyon to Kodachrome Basin

June 9th – Road from Zion to Kodachrome Basin State Park

Tunneled through the rock on Scenic Byway 12

It was a white knuckle kind of drive with the wind bouncing us down the road. The weather forecast says high wind warnings for the next three to four days. Wind is a nightmare for any high-profile vehicle, and even as small as Ellie Mae is, we are not enjoying the buffeting.  Continue reading

Zion National Park ~ Reliving favorite moments from an earlier trip.

Thursday, June 8th ~ Zion National Park

Zion National Park Entrance

We got up and out fairly early for us, wanting to get up into Zion before noon in hopes of getting a spot in the South Campground right inside the park. They do not take reservations, and we knew the odds were not in our favor. After a phone call where I found out that the park usually fills up between 9:00 a.m. and noon, I was even more concerned.  Continue reading

Lake Powell and Horseshoe Bend at Sunset

June 6th ~ Page, Arizona (Part 2)

Waiting for sunset at Horseshoe Bend

After such a thrilling morning at Antelope Canyon, we returned to Ellie Mae for lunch and sorted through hundreds of pictures. As much as I LOVE photography, sometimes more is not always better. But, I was pleased with what we got and thankful we had such brilliant lighting.  Continue reading

Antelope Canyon ~ One More “Page” of our Book

June 6th ~ Page, Arizona (Part 1)

Upper Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon is another of those iconic places in America that I have dreamed of seeing. There are two separate sections of Antelope Canyon – Upper and Lower. The Lower section is more strenuous and requires climbing up and down steep ladders. The upper section is doable for almost any fitness level.  Continue reading

A Watchtower and Petrified Dinosaur Poop

June 5th ~ Grand Canyon to Page, AZ

Tim and Joanne at The Watchtower at the Grand Canyon

We got on the road at a decent time today. Starting to get the hang of things with the RV and becoming more comfortable with what needs to be done, from the setting up upon arrival to disconnecting before departing.  Continue reading
