August 27th – 30th ~ Near Sandpoint, Idaho

Pend Oreille River from Riley Creek Recreation Area Campground
*We booked three nights at the Army Corp of Engineering camp ground in the Riley Creek Recreation Area. Situated right on the Pend Oreille River, a few miles outside of Sandpoint, Idaho, it is a great place for a base to explore the area.
The biggest events we planned were taking the chair lift up to the top of Schweitzer Mountain and hiking down, plus an afternoon cruise on Lake Pend Oreille, but I plan on doing individual write ups about each of these.

Roomy campsite surrounded by trees and water
First a bit about our campsite. We love the Army Corp of Engineers sites and choose them whenever we can. The sites are roomy and not crowded together. They are kept up, well-managed, clean and lovely settings, often overlooking water.
Numerous outdoor activities are available from the campsite and we managed to fit a few in over our stay including walking along the river, enjoying the gorgeous setting and Tim even got in a little fishing.
Snaps from our walk along the river:

COMING NEXT: Schweitzer Mountain hiking
GRATITUDE MOMENT: Today I am grateful for Tim spotting this magnificent sunset just in time to capture a quick picture.
What a beautiful place! I can see why you enjoyed it. I like the shot where the fish appears to be hanging in the air all by itself. 🙂

Janet, it was so peaceful there. Our campsite was right by the river. We found it very relaxing.
