Tuesday night July 28th ~ Lyon at night
From 9:00 to 10:45 pm, we had an exclusive Uniworld night excursion to revel in the lights of Lyon. With one covered bus and two open air busses, we chose the top deck on one of the open busses along with our new friends Sandy and Steve.
Our first destination was motoring up to the top of Fourvière Hill to see Lyon Cathedral and an overview of the city.
Walking just past the cathedral, we had an amazing panoramic view of the city lights far below.
And as it had been so carefully timed, as we turned around, the lights had come on the cathedral behind us.
And the neighboring tower
Our tour continued on through town.
And past this well-known building with an intricate mural.
“In Lyon the walls tell stories, mostly very tall tales. While painting on walls is as old as time, the city has taken the art of modern urban wall painting to new heights with nearly 60 outdoor murals. Some are breathtaking flights of fancy; others are marvelous examples of trompe l’oeil, depictions of everyday life so realistic you could almost walk into them. ~ Francetoday.com

But for me one of the highlights of the evening, and what gives an example of how well we were cared for on our cruise was at the very end.
As we arrived back to the pier, we were met curbside by staff members holding flashlights to illuminate the concrete stairs back down to the dock side. With a cheerful “welcome back” we truly felt like we were returning “home”.
Gratitude Moment: Today I am grateful for a staff that has not only been well-trained, but has gone over and above the normal service to give us an exceptional time. It is not just the big things that have been taken care of, but the little courtesies along the way that puts them at the top in my books.
