The Ties That Bind

Our home has been up for sale for two weeks now. We are determined to get it sold sooner rather than later. One of the things we had to do in preparation of listing the house was to declutter. Loads of our belongings have already been given away, thrown away, donated or sold. The less we possess, the lighter I am feeling.

We can actually park both cars in our garage now!

Several people have asked me things like:

Has it been hard getting rid of things?
Won’t I miss my home?

In some ways it has been much easier than I ever imagined.  I found that there are not a lot of “things” that I am extremely attached to.  Sure I LIKE many of my possessions, but I am not in LOVE with them.  And that is my new criteria – just like it – out it goes, but if I love it – keep it for now.

Our home has many wonderful memories attached to it.  This is where we raised our son.  This was our safe, quiet haven.  Our home was and still is full of love.  The landscaping has matured, including three beautiful Jacaranda trees in our backyard.  It is comfortable, a little worn around the edges, roomy, and now clutter free.

But will I regret selling it?  Hmmm

No more mortgage.  Gone will be the upkeep, maintenance, taxes, repair bills, high utility bills, yard work, painting, roof to replace, and a great deal of work.

In it’s place will be FREEDOM.  Nope, don’t think I will regret this decision.
