Beartooth Highway
The weather had been dismal the day before, so we decided to give the Beartooth Highway a second chance to WOW us. I’m so grateful that we did!

July 9th ~ Mammoth Hot Springs

Mound Spring – Mammoth Hot Springs
Yesterday was our transitioning day where we moved from centrally located Norris Campground, up to the north-west corner of the park, Mammoth Hot Springs. The in-park campground which is just a mile north of the visitor’s center had a place for us and we quickly got settled in. Continue reading
July 7th ~ Norris Geyser Basin
We spent part of the day exploring Norris Geyser Basin. Not too exciting to be honest, at least compared to my favorites between Madison Junction and Old Faithful. Although it is the most acidic of the basins, the main showpieces are dormant and erupt rarely.
WARNING: Do not allow spray from any of the geysers land on your glasses or camera lens. It is highly acidic and can damage or destroy them if not wiped clean immediately.
Still, there are a few features that are noteworthy, at least for geyser lovers… Continue reading
July 6th ~ Yellowstone National Park

Tim and Joanne at Grand Prismatic Spring
Yellowstone National Park is HUGE – like 2.2 million acres huge. There are five ways you can enter/leave the park, from the east, south, west, north and north-east. The major roadway through the park is in the shape of a figure eight.
There are over 10,000 thermal features in Yellowstone which includes steaming pools, hissing fumaroles, boiling mud pots and of course erupting geysers. Yellowstone had more thermal features than the rest of the world, combined! Continue reading
July 5th ~ Yellowstone National Park

On the loop drive – Firehole Lake
The move up from the Teton’s to Yellowstone was uneventful, except that the park we wanted to stay in (Madison Junction) was already filled before 9:00 so we moved on to Norris Campground at Norris Geyser Basin. For $10 a night with a senior pass, we got no hook-ups, but a wonderful view along the river’s edge. Continue reading
July 3rd ~ Grand Teton National Park

Tim and Joanne at Hidden Falls
There is construction going on at Jenny Lake, and the parking situation is dismal. We were advised to get there before 9:00 in the morning unless we could levitate our car. WELL, we did not get out and about when we had planned, so early afternoon, we were prepared to play the go in circles, and wait for a spot to open. Continue reading

June 29th and 30th ~ Wrapping up the month of June

Stained glass – notice detail in the background
We kept a low profile the past couple of days. Short jaunts out in the Tetons to see Sacred Heart, an old log cabin style Catholic Church, look for more animals, visit the dam at Jackson Lake and a day trip up into Yellowstone National Park to try to size up camping locations for after the 4th of July. Continue reading
June 27th and 28th ~ Grand Teton’s

View from Oxbow Bend
This park is simply beyond gorgeous and we have decided to make ourselves at home until after the 4th of July. Continue reading
