LA Arboretum ~ Arcadia, California

How magnificent is nature?

How magnificent is nature?

It has been a few years since we visited the LA Arboretum and we are due for a return. One of the many things that stood out for me was seeing the peacocks proudly display their brilliant plumage.

“… 127 acres of plants, natural landscapes, wildlife and historic buildings. You will discover plants and trees from all over the world as you wander along paths and learn about California history on your journey through the garden.” ~

This is IMHO a hidden gem in the Southern California area. Another fabulous place for photography, having a family outing complete with picnic, take a nature walk with a docent, visit the sculpture garden, bird watch, ride the tram through the garden if walking distances is a challenge, or sit beside the fountains and soak up some sunshine.

These pictures were from March 2010.

Gratitude Moment: Today I am grateful for long term friendships. On Thursday I have a girlfriend flying in from Arizona to spend a few days with me. We have been friends going on 50 years. Drifting in and out of each others lives over the many years, we have somehow managed to maintain that special bond that allows for long periods of silence. But then magically, when we do get together we can take off as though is was just yesterday when we last celebrated a birthday, cried over a lost classmate, bragged about our children, or simply shared a glass of wine.

Thanks Joanne for including some local places we can go to. I am always amazed at some of the most magical and beautiful sites so close to home.
The LA Arboretum is a place I have not revisited for over 10 years. I believe it is time.
Thanks again for the lovely photos and the detailed descriptions.
    You are greatly appreciated.

Beautiful. If ever I go to LA, I will try to go there!

  3. The upside down peacock photo is unusual and great and the lovely hanging flower is gorgeous.

  4. Aunt Beulah says:

Having just returned from a week in Carson City and Reno visiting two long-time dear friends, I especially appreciated your gratitude moment. You expressed everything I felt as I flew home.

  5. She arrived this afternoon and we have been talking non-stop ever since. So much fun to catch up. I know we will enjoy our “retail therapy” session tomorrow as well. Terri is masterful at putting outfits together and I have asked her to work her magic on me. Can’t wait to see what we come up with.
