Recap – A trip around the world in pictures

On March 13th, we flew out of Los Angeles, with a change of planes in Beijing, which brought us to New Delhi, India. This was the starting point for our seven month around-the-world dream trip.

Picking out a favorite or meaningful picture for each of the 29 countries* we stopped in is a labor of love, a fun walk down memory lane, as well as a daunting project sorting through thousands of pictures.

I hope you enjoy seeing what I chose:

If you click on the country name, it will take you to a list of all of the posts and pictures I shared from that particular country or region. Go ahead and click on one, I’ll wait 🙂

Quote of the day: “Don’t be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don’t have to live forever, you just have to live.” ~ Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting.

Gratitude Moment: Today I am grateful for this incredible trip, from start to finish. Some of the days ran together, a few were too long. I got weary, I got inspired. I got behind in my sleep when I stayed up too late writing a blog entry. I got energized when I reviewed our pictures and envisioned again each spectacular site. Having people follow along and leave a comment encouraged me to keep on writing. I don’t regret a moment spent exploring, learning, sharing, doing, seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, or touching at each new place. I felt alive. I stayed open to the possibilities and they were endless.

Joanne, I am sure I must have recommended this before, but you absolutely must publish your photos in a Shutterfly book for safekeeping, not to mention the wonderful keepsake it would be. These photos are amazing. Can’t believe you could pick just one to represent each country.

I will be following along on your next journey. Be well!

    • Suzanne, I have made a Shutterfly photo album each year of the “highlights” for a long time. I also have made several “destination” albums. I think I may have to divide this trip up into more than one album though 🙂

Oh my, how much I admire you. You two visited the countries I want to see, too. You made your dream come true, you travelled the world. And best of all, you shared it with us, for which I am very grateful. We just managed to visit England and Italy yet, but I’m sure I’ll find inspiration for our future travels in your experiences. Thank you for that!

Currently, the possibilities are limited by our bank account balance 😉
But we will give our best to show our children the wonders of the world, one country at a time!

What a fabulous trip. I’ve sampled a little but will have to come back to look at more. I did see that, like us, you were impressed with how well the cemeteries and memorials in France are maintained. All through northern France and Belgium we found a collective respect and gratitude towards those who had fought for these countries in both World Wars.

What beautiful photos you’ve chosen for your highlights. I will come back and click on some of the links. And I need to get out a map, because I don’t really know where a lot of those Eastern European countries are… Thanks for that great post.

I’m glad to see you made it to my homeland of Canada! I am just outside of Niagara Falls. I hope you enjoyed your time here.

    Any plans for 2015?

    • Lexie, the Canadian side of Niagara Falls was so much nicer than our American side. Although seeing the falls from any angle is amazing! I’m glad you enjoy our pictures. We are working on several different trips for 2015. One of the possible road trips would be across the Southwestern corner of Canada. I drove it in the early 1980’s and recall it as some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. Thanks for joining us!

Sooo glad you went to Lativa (my mother was born there, and I visited in the early 1990s, after the wall came down). I bet it’s changed a lot over the years.
